2007 was the last year before Indian independent music began to move online in a big way. Bands still sold CDs at gigs, college festivals were the main stage, and only a handful of records from that year made it onto Apple Music India with their real dates. This page picks the best Indian indie songs of 2007 from those records: a landmark Mumbai rock album, the first Blackstratblues album, a metal EP and two Bengali rock songs.
How we checked. Every date below is the song's own date on Apple Music India (iTunes catalogue, country IN), checked on 28 October 2026. We only list songs whose Apple date falls in 2007, and we leave out film soundtracks, remixes and placeholder dates (songs Apple lists only as 1 January). Only released music is covered.

The Mumbai band fronted by Vishal Dadlani made one of the defining Indian rock records of the decade with this album. Fifteen of its sixteen songs carry the 1 March 2007 date on Apple Music India. It mixes rock, electronic beats and big shout-along choruses, and it is the reason a lot of fans still call Pentagram the band that made Indian rock sound modern.

2. "Today". The opener, short and punchy, setting the album's tone.
3. "Rude". Loud, cheeky and built for a festival crowd.

5. "Rock 'N' Roll". The band's straight-up tribute to the genre.
6. "Man Eat Man". One of the darker songs on the record.

10. "No Turning Back". The closer, steady and anthemic.
Blackstratblues — Nights In Shining Karma (1 April 2007)
The debut album of Warren Mendonsa's instrumental guitar project. All eight songs are dated 1 April 2007 on Apple Music India. Melodic, bluesy and patient, it set the template for the later Blackstratblues records. For the full story, see our Blackstratblues songs and Blackstratblues albums guides.
11. "Bombay Rain" (feat. Zorran Mendonsa). A warm, rolling tune that sounds like its title.
12. "Nights In Shining Karma". The title track and the album's emotional centre.
13. "Soar the Sky". Lift-off guitar lines over a steady groove.
14. "Blues For Gary". A tribute in the old blues style.

Fossils — Aupodartho (15 July 2007)
The Kolkata band led by Rupam Islam, the biggest name in Bengali rock. On Apple Music India the Aupodartho collection mixes older songs with two that carry the 15 July 2007 date. More in our Fossils songs guide.
20. "Aupodartho". The title song, dramatic and defiant.
21. "Bichchhinno Nuclear". A tense, hard-rocking track.

What we left out
A few 2007 records are on Apple Music India but did not make this list: film soundtracks and remix sets, and albums whose songs only carry a placeholder date or a later date. That is why the list is short. Many great records from this era were never put on streaming with their real dates; our Indian indie albums before streaming guide covers them.
