Blackstratblues is the instrumental guitar project of Mumbai guitarist Warren Mendonsa. With no singer, the songs live on melody: long, singing guitar lines over warm rock, blues and folk grooves. Since 2007 the project has released seven studio albums, two live albums and an ambient reworking. This guide picks the best Blackstratblues songs on Apple Music India, album by album, with dates and where to start.

How we checked. All dates come from Apple Music India (iTunes catalogue, country IN), checked on 28 October 2026. Only released music is covered. For full tracklists and album notes, see our Blackstratblues albums guide.

Nights In Shining Karma (2007)

Apple dates the debut to 1 April 2007. It has eight tracks. "Anuva's Sky" opens the record and is still one of the best-known Blackstratblues songs, a slow, emotional melody that shows off Mendonsa's tone. The title track "Nights In Shining Karma" is a gentle late-night piece. "Blues For Gary" is a straight, heartfelt blues, and "Bombay Rain", with Zorran Mendonsa, closes the album. Also here: "Incense", "A Weekend With You (And Nothing Else To Do)", "Soar the Sky" and "The Cat and the Fiddle".

The New Album (2009)

Dated 16 December 2009, eight tracks. "Ode To a Sunny Day" is the opener and one of the happiest songs in the catalogue; "Ode To a Rainy Day" is its quieter twin later on the album. "The Happy Billi Song" is light and playful, and "Lullabyebye" closes the album softly. The other songs are "Cowboys & Indians", "Another Sun", "Older Wise & Grey" and "Newness".

The Universe Has a Strange Sense of Humour (2015)

Dated 13 March 2015, eight tracks. The title track is a fan favourite and appears on the live L.I/O.V.E. Vol. I. "E Major Blues" is a fiery, fast blues workout. "Folkish Three" has a light, folk feel. "Come Anyway", with Nikhil D'souza, is one of the few Blackstratblues songs with a guest singer. Also on the album: "Renaissance Mission", "Two Sides of the Same Coin", "Little Rascal" and "Anandamide".

The Last Analog Generation (2017)

Dated 15 August 2017, eight tracks. "North Star" opens the album with a big, hopeful melody. "Love Song to the Truth" features Tejas. "Lead Chain Swing" closes the record with a swinging groove. The title track, "Sometimes This World (Is Not Such a Bad Place)", "Reconnaissance Mission", "Mediatrician" and "Aurora Borealis" complete it.

When It's Time (2019)
