Junkyard Groove

Junkyard Groove is a Chennai alternative rock band formed in June 2005 by singer-songwriter and guitarist Ameeth Thomas, the only founding member still in the band. Thomas picked up his brother's guitar at 16, while on bed rest during his years as a cricketer. Over time he taught himself production, banjo, mandolin and piano.

The band's debut album 11:11 (2009) includes "It's Ok," the song many listeners still know them for. The EP Nicer in a Minute came next. The band then split, re-formed with a new line-up and released its second album, Accidental Hero, in 2013, first as a download from the band's own site. Rolling Stone India noted the record's electronic touches on songs like "In Your Eyes," and Thomas insisted the live show would stay guitar-and-drums rock. A run of EPs followed, including Before I Go, +&- (2016), a self-titled EP (2018) and Head Above Water (2020), plus a steady stream of singles.

Junkyard Groove describes its approach as fan-funded: "the fans are the record label." Through repeated line-up changes, its advice for surviving in Indian independent music has stayed the same: "stick it out."
