Parekh & Singh were a dream-pop duo from Kolkata: Nischay Parekh (vocals, guitar, synths) and Jivraj Singh (drums, electronics). Their records were immaculate and pastel-coloured, their videos were styled just as carefully, and their 2016 re-release of Ocean on a British label took them to audiences abroad, a rare route for an Indian indie act. They released three albums before going on hiatus in January 2024, and announced their split in February 2025.
This guide goes through the catalogue in order. Titles, dates, track counts and tracklists come from Apple Music India (artist id 1146494258), checked on 28 October 2026. History comes from Wikipedia. We don't quote stream counts.

How the duo came together
The two met as teenagers; both had attended La Martiniere for Boys in Kolkata. Parekh took classes at Berklee College of Music in Boston before returning to Kolkata to write songs. Singh grew up in a musical household, with parents who sang and played in touring cover bands. Before the duo, Parekh sang and played guitar in an "experimental pop" band, The Monkey In Me, formed in 2009.
From 2011 they performed as Nischay Parekh, nominally his solo project, with Singh as a constant collaborator. Ocean came out independently under that name in 2013, with Pedro Zappa on bass and George Dylan on keys. Rolling Stone India named it one of the best Indian albums of the year. They were briefly called Zap in 2014, then became Parekh & Singh in 2015, after Simon & Garfunkel and Hall & Oates.
Ocean (2016 re-release)
Peacefrog, a British indie label, re-released the album under the new name in October 2016. Nine tracks:
- I Love You Baby, I Love You Doll
- Newbury Street
- Me & You
- Panda
- Hill
- Ghost
- Secrets
- Ocean
- Philosophize
I Love You Baby, I Love You Doll
The song most people know them by. The re-release video was shot on a US$5,000 budget with a look borrowed from Wes Anderson, and it passed two million YouTube views, a big number for an Indian indie band at the time. It's still the best introduction.
Ghost
Released as a single in May 2017 (Apple also lists a radio edit). Its video, directed by Mischa Ghose, also passed two million views.
Panda and Philosophize
The other two singles from the album. "Panda" is the sweetest thing they recorded.
"Ocean (Dream Levels)" and "Panda (Dream Levels)" followed as reworked singles in early 2018.
Science City (2019)
The second album, named after the science park in Kolkata. Eleven tracks:
- Sunbeam
- Down at the Sky
- Hello
- Summer Skin
- Be Something
- Evening Sun
- Monkey
- Forward Slash
- Surgeon
- One Hundred Shadows
- Crystalline
"Summer Skin" came first, in November 2018, after the band finished touring Ocean. It premiered on VICE India and made Rolling Stone India's songs of the year. At 5:19 it's the album's longest track. "Hello" and "Crystalline" followed before the album, and "Evening Sun" and "Drum Machine" after it.
During the pandemic they couldn't tour and played live-streamed home concerts, plus a cover of Radiohead's "Karma Police".
Chhan Chhan Chhan (2022)
Written for the soundtrack of the series Kaun Banegi Shikharwati, with Delhi singer-songwriter Kamakshi Khanna. It came out in January 2022 (Apple dates it 1 February).
The Night Is Clear (2022)
The third and last album. Nine tracks:
- Sleepyhead
- Bedouin
- Je Suis la Pomme Rouge
- Miracle
- Seven Days
- King
- Songbird
- C C C
- The Nightingale
"Je Suis La Pomme Rouge" was their first proper single in nearly three years and the lead single. "Sleepyhead" followed in March, and "The Nightingale" in August, days before the album was surprise-released. A national tour ran in October and November 2022. The record is calmer and more nocturnal than Science City, as the title suggests.
Hiatus and split
After a final show at Lollapalooza in Mumbai, the duo went on hiatus in January 2024. Parekh started a solo project, TV Dinner. In February 2025 they announced their split, citing "a diversion of interests and ambitions". The three albums are the complete catalogue.
Where to start
- First listen: "I Love You Baby, I Love You Doll" → "Summer Skin" → "Je Suis La Pomme Rouge".
- Album listener: Ocean, then Science City.
- The late period: The Night Is Clear, start to finish.
