Keane Cotta's Lauren sat at No. 24 on Fresh Finds India at our ~1:30 PM IST check on 16 October 2026 — a solo Spotify tile for a Goan singer-songwriter, 191 days after the track's 8 April release on the debut EP redecorate. This desk already used Lauren once, as a freshness data point in How Fresh Is Fresh Finds India?: added 26 August, 140 days after release, still on the list weeks later. That column asked what "new" means on the playlist. This review asks a different question. What does the song itself print — ownership, credits, genre, and the quiet closer Indian Music Diaries heard in June — and why did Fresh Finds keep the last track of an EP rather than a first-week single?

WaterRecords paper, a readable room
The phonographic line is not artist-held. Apple's album lookup for collectionId 1889742532 prints ℗ 2026 WaterRecords on redecorate, and the same WaterRecords string appears on Cotta's earlier singles in the iTunes catalogue — By Your Side (2023), Hawaii (2024), Overseas and Fool For You (2025), Pretend (2026). Our catalog Label field is WaterRecords. As we have argued on who owns the masters, a public credit sheet is not a contract; it is the claim the store is willing to print. On Lauren the ℗ claim says the label. The credit panel, for once, says more than a name and a title.
Parsed from Apple's song page at package build, Performing Artists lists Keane Cotta on Acoustic Guitar only — not Performer, not Vocals. Composition & Lyrics lists two songwriters: Cotta and Samarth Chawla. Production & Engineering lists Timothy Thampy as Mixing Engineer and Chawla again as Co-Producer. There is no Lyrics row, no lead Producer row, no Mastering row. The gap that matters for a singer-songwriter song is the missing voice credit. Lauren is billed to Keane Cotta on Spotify and Apple; the store still declines to print him as a vocalist on the job list we captured.
That is a different ownership story from the thin self-℗ sheets we reviewed earlier the same day on Fresh Finds. Tu Mera Jahaan carried ℗ 2026 Zicr with only Performer and Composer printed. Lauren flips the shape: label paper, a co-writer, a co-producer, a mix engineer, an acoustic-guitar row — and silence where a Performer line would usually sit. Independence Independent for the desk field. The editorial point is not to invent a vocalist the store forgot. It is to say Fresh Finds India is selling a face and a first name while the printed jobs document a small room around Cotta and leave the singing itself off the sheet.
What Indian Music Diaries heard in Lauren
On 22 June 2026, The Indian Music Diaries published a review by Nishtha of redecorate. The piece frames Keane Cotta as a Goan singer-songwriter, then 23, raised in a family of musicians, writing since sixteen, releasing independently since 2023. Our catalog Locale is Goa on that verified press framing — and on the same review's note that Fool For You features fellow Goan artist Gretchen D. Barretto.
Nishtha's reading of Lauren is specific enough to quote and leave alone. By the time the EP arrives at its closer, the review says, there is a sense of peace; the song feels like an open letter to younger selves who believed first heartbreak would be the end of the world. It acknowledges that loving the wrong person does not make the love less real, and that moving on does not invalidate what once existed. "Sometimes healing looks like wishing someone well while hoping they never return," the piece continues. "Sometimes forgiveness means accepting that you were simply a kid doing your best with the emotional tools you had at the time."
That is press opinion, dated and bylined, not our invention. Apple Music's own lyrics excerpt for Lauren opens on the same first-name address: "Lauren / Do you still remember the days when / We'd carve our names in the pavements." I am not going to paraphrase a full lyric sheet we do not have. The three printed lines are enough to confirm the song speaks to a named someone, which matches the open-letter frame IMD gave it without requiring us to colour in the rest.
One hundred and ninety-one days, still on the shelf
Lauren is old for a discovery playlist if you count from release day. One hundred and ninety-one days from 8 April 2026 to our 16 October snapshot sits well above the roughly nine-week median age we measured in the freshness column. Spotify's public Fresh Finds India page had already shown an add date of 26 August for Lauren at our early-morning a60 check — 140 days after release, then about seven weeks on the list. At this package's ~1:30 PM IST snapshot it remains at No. 24, between Rohit Bhatia's Oceans Apart and Savni Bhatt's Bundiya above, and Phir Se Milenge below. Rock in India did not carry it at the same a70 check.
Age is context, not the review. The gatekeeper shelf chose a Singer/Songwriter-tagged EP closer with WaterRecords paper and a small, named studio room. Neighbours on the freshness story still matter as foil: Calcutta Cowboy's Stranger was the oldest song on the list when we counted in the early hours; Lauren was the clear example of a long release-to-add gap that still earned weeks of shelf time. This piece is not another turnover essay. It is the first dedicated listen this publication has given the song those numbers were describing.
Catalogue before the EP closer
Lauren is not Cotta's first Apple page. ArtistId 1692709376 already carries By Your Side (30 June 2023), Hawaii (1 November 2024), Overseas (4 April 2025), Fool For You (1 August 2025), and Pretend (30 January 2026) before redecorate's 8 April 2026 street date. On the EP itself Apple orders Pretend, Overseas, Fool For You (with Gretchen D. Barretto), Kinds Of Blue, then Lauren. Two of those EP cuts had lived as singles first; Lauren and Kinds Of Blue share the EP release date. So Fresh Finds India is not discovering a cold debut. It is keeping the last song of a five-track project from an artist already on WaterRecords for three years.
That catalogue depth changes how the missing Performer row reads. A first-timer with empty credits is one problem. A named Goan singer-songwriter with Acoustic Guitar and Songwriter printed, a co-writer and co-producer in Samarth Chawla, a mix from Timothy Thampy, and still no Vocals line is another. The room is documented. The voice job is not.
What this publication thinks
Lauren earns the desk because the stores and the June IMD review print a usable song story together. Strength one: WaterRecords holds the ℗ in public — a clean label claim rather than an ambiguous blank. Strength two: the credit sheet names co-writing and co-production with Samarth Chawla and a mix by Timothy Thampy, so the EP closer is not sold as a solitary myth. Strength three: Nishtha's 22 June Indian Music Diaries piece gives a dated, independent reading of Lauren as peace and forgiveness without us inventing programme notes. Strength four: Fresh Finds India kept a 191-day-old EP track at No. 24, which is a discovery choice worth reviewing as a song, not only as a spreadsheet cell.
Weakness: Apple's Performing Artists block under-documents the identity the tile sells. Acoustic Guitar without Performer or Vocals is not proof Cotta did not sing — it is proof the store did not print those rows at our capture. Until the sheet names the voice, listeners who never open IMD or the lyric excerpt are left with a guitar credit and a first name in the title.
We are not attacking Keane Cotta's writing. We are saying Fresh Finds India No. 24 sold a Goan Singer/Songwriter EP closer while the printed jobs built a small room and left the vocal line blank — and that gap matters for how Indian independent music is discovered and credited. Listeners who care about ownership should open the WaterRecords ℗, the Chawla and Thampy rows, and the IMD review before treating a tile as a biography. For No. 24, the paper is the label's. The closer is still his song. This publication is reviewing that open letter.
