A duo isn't just a smaller band. Two people who write together make decisions differently from a five-piece: fewer compromises, a sharper identity and, often, a sound a full group couldn't make. Indian independent music has produced duos in nearly every genre, from dream pop and rap to electronica and film production. This guide lists the ones with real catalogues behind them.
Release information comes from the public Apple Music India catalogue (checked 28 October 2026). Line-ups and dates come from our live artist pages and Wikipedia. We don't cite stream counts.
Parekh & Singh (Kolkata): dream pop
Parekh & Singh were Nischay Parekh (vocals, guitar, synths) and Jivraj Singh (drums, electronics), who met as teenagers at La Martiniere for Boys in Kolkata. They made pastel-coloured, carefully arranged dream pop. Apple lists three albums: Ocean (in a 2016 edition, with an earlier deluxe version), Science City (April 2019), named after the Kolkata science park, and The Night is Clear (September 2022). "I Love You Baby, I Love You Doll" (2016) is the song most people know. The duo went on hiatus in January 2024 and announced their split in February 2025, so the catalogue is now complete.
Seedhe Maut (Delhi): hip-hop
Seedhe Maut are Siddhant Sharma (Calm), from Nainital, and Abhijay Negi (Encore ABJ), from Pauri Garhwal. They formed in 2015, and they're the most influential rap duo in the country right now: two voices, very different styles, one tight catalogue.
On Apple: the 2 Ka Pahada EP (2017), the albums Bayaan (2018) and Nayaab (2022), both with producer Sez on the Beat, न (2021), the 30-track Lunch Break (2023), the SHAKTI EP (2024), Kshama (December 2024) and DL91 FM (2025). Read Seedhe Maut songs and the artist page.
Shaa'ir + Func (Mumbai): electro-rock
Monica Dogra and Randolph Correia formed Shaa'ir + Func in Mumbai in 2007 and took electronic rock onto Indian club and festival stages. They're one of the earliest examples of an Indian indie duo with a national profile. Apple Music India carries two of their records: Mantis (2010, 11 tracks) and Re:cover (2014, eight tracks). Dogra also hosted four seasons of the music documentary series The Dewarists.
Midival Punditz (New Delhi): electronica
Gaurav Raina and Tapan Raj started Midival Punditz in New Delhi, fusing electronic production with Indian classical and folk sounds. They were the first Indian electronica act signed by an international label, Six Degrees Records in the US. Apple lists the self-titled MIDIval PunditZ (2002), Light (2015), Purvayi (2019) and Love And Machines (April 2026), plus soundtrack credits on Karthik Calling Karthik (2010) and Gully Boy (2019). Raina also shares the credit on Ankur Tewari's single "Ishaarey" (2023) with Komorebi.
OAFF & Savera (Mumbai): producers and composers
A producer pair whose credits run across indie-adjacent film soundtracks. Apple credits them on Gehraiyaan (2022), including "Doobey" and "Beqaaboo", and on Kho Gaye Hum Kahan (2023), including "Hone Do Jo Hota Hai" and "Teri Yeh Baatein" with Ankur Tewari. They're the link between the indie songwriting scene and the more independent-minded wave of Hindi film music.
Raghav & Arjun: composers and pop
Raghav & Arjun are credited as a pair on a run of film, series and pop releases. Their Apple catalogue includes the Kaalkoot series score (2024), the singles "Tu Yahaan" (2025) and "alvida" (February 2026), both with Anubha Kaul (Kamakshi Khanna joins on "alvida"), "Ho Jayenge Ghum" with Taba Chake (August 2026) and "Jaadu Kaisa Hai" with Savera (September 2026). They're a good example of a duo working across indie and screen music at once.
Bloodywood's origin as a duo (New Delhi): metal
Bloodywood started in 2016 as a two-piece. Karan Katiyar was posting metal parodies of Bollywood songs to YouTube while working as a corporate lawyer. He met vocalist Jayant Bhadula at a local gig, quit his job and formed the duo with him. Between December 2016 and September 2017 they put out metal versions of pop songs from "Closer" to "Despacito", later collected on Bandcamp as Anti-Pop Vol. 1. Rapper Raoul Kerr guested in those early years, and his English verses run through the debut album Rakshak (18 February 2022).
Why duos work in Indian indie
- Logistics. Two people can tour by train and fit on small stages. See how to plan a tour.
- Splits. Ownership and royalty splits are simpler with two names, but they still need paperwork. See our split sheet guide and music collaboration agreement.
- Identity. Two voices or two roles (producer and singer, two MCs) make a clear story for press and playlists.
- Flexibility. Several duos above also work as producers for other artists, which a five-piece band rarely manages.
