Indian metal has spent three decades on the margins: in small venues, at college fests and at festivals like Bangalore Open Air, and on self-funded CDs. Some of its records still stand up against anything from the global scene. This list picks fifteen of them, covering death metal, thrash, heavy metal, progressive, djent and the folk-metal that took Bloodywood around the world.
How we chose:
- Full-length studio albums only. No EPs, no live records, no singles.
- Released and on Apple Music India, with every date, track count and ℗ line checked on 28 October 2026. Records announced but not yet out aren't included.
- One "start with" track for each.
They're in release order, not ranked. For the bands themselves, see our guide to Indian metal bands.

1. Undying Inc: Aggressive World Dynasty (2010)
Delhi's Undying Inc play heavy, groove-driven metal with a hardcore edge. Their second album has twelve tracks, from "In Vacuo" to "Existence Failed V 3.1", and it shaped a generation of North Indian heavy bands. Apple dates it 2010 and shows a later digital ℗ line (2019).
Start with: "Aggressive World Dynasty"
2. Kryptos: The Coils of Apollyon (2012)
Bangalore's Kryptos play classic heavy metal, the kind built on twin guitars, galloping riffs and fantasy lyrics. The Coils of Apollyon was their first album for German label AFM Records, the label they've stayed with since. Its nine tracks run from "The Mask of Anubis" to "The Isle of Voices". Visit the Kryptos artist page.
Start with: "The Coils of Apollyon"
3. Demonic Resurrection: The Demon King (2014)
Mumbai's Demonic Resurrection, led by Sahil "Demonstealer" Makhija, are among the longest-running extreme metal bands in India. The Demon King is a ten-track concept album of symphonic blackened death metal, from "The Assassination" to "The End Paradox", self-released on Demonstealer Records.
Start with: "Facing the Faceless"
4. Amogh Symphony: Vectorscan (2014)
This is the most out-there record on the list: thirteen tracks of experimental progressive metal and jazz-fusion. Most of the titles are whole sentences, and a few are in Assamese ("Mayamohey Bhora, Aey Dhorat", "Maatir Manuh Ami…"). It's technical and odd, and nothing else in Indian metal sounds like it.
Start with: "Desolate"
5. Bhayanak Maut: Man (2014)
Mumbai's Bhayanak Maut were the loudest band in the city for a decade. Man is their self-released second album: seventeen tracks of chaotic, groove-heavy metalcore stitched together by five "Stage" interludes. "I Am Man" and "All Glory to the Beard" became live favourites.
Start with: "I Am Man"
6. Skyharbor: Guiding Lights (2014)
Skyharbor started as guitarist Keshav Dhar's project, and Guiding Lights is the record that made them India's best-known progressive metal band abroad. It has ten tracks of atmospheric djent, with guest spots from Mark Holcomb of Periphery ("Allure") and Plini ("The Constant"). The Apple listing is a 2024 re-issue on Phit and Phyne. For the full story, see our Skyharbor band guide.
Start with: "Allure" (feat. Mark Holcomb)
7. Inner Sanctum: Legions Awake (2015)
Inner Sanctum play melodic death and thrash metal. Their self-released album Legions Awake has nine tracks, opening with the instrumental "Incipiens" and closing with "Guardian". It's well played and well recorded, and it's one of the most underrated records on this list.
Start with: "Wake of Destruction"
8. Zygnema: What Makes Us Human Is Obsolete (2015)
Mumbai's Zygnema play groove-thrash. Their second album has eleven tracks, from "Embryo" to "A Design to Choose", and it's tighter and angrier than their 2010 debut Born of Unity. "Shell Broken Hell Loose" gets the most plays.
Start with: "Shell Broken Hell Loose"
9. Primitiv: Immortal & Vile (2016)
This seven-track debut came out on Transcending Obscurity India, the label that has done more than any other to document Indian extreme metal. It's death-thrash with old-school production and titles like "World War Zero" and "The Demon of Science".
Start with: "Clash of the Gods"
10. Demonic Resurrection: Dashavatar (2017)
Demonic Resurrection's second entry here is their best-known album. It has ten tracks, one for each of Vishnu's ten avatars, from "Matsya: The Fish" to "Kalki: The Destroyer of Filth". It's the clearest example of an Indian extreme metal band building a whole album around Indian mythology. See the Demonic Resurrection artist page.
Start with: "Narasimha: The Man-Lion"
11. Gutslit: Amputheatre (2017)
Mumbai's Gutslit are India's best-known brutal and slam death metal export. Amputheatre is nine tracks of slam riffs and gore themes named after medieval tortures ("Brazen Bull", "Brodequin", "Scaphism"). Not for everyone, but the standard-bearer for its style. Their 2023 follow-up Carnal features Julien Truchan of Benighted.
Start with: "Amputheatre"
12. Skyharbor: Sunshine Dust (2018)
Skyharbor's third album is the most song-focused, with thirteen tracks from "Signal" to the title track. It's more melodic and less djent-heavy than Guiding Lights, released through Entertainment One in the US. It's a good entry point if heavy metal usually isn't your thing.
Start with: "Out of Time"
13. Systemhouse33: End of Days (2019)
Mumbai thrash band Systemhouse33 have been around since the 1990s. This self-released nine-track album, from "Day of Reckoning" to "Cry of Anguish", is their most complete record. They followed it with Salvation (2022) and Full Circle (2023).
Start with: "Rapture"
14. Bloodywood: Rakshak (2022)
The Delhi band went viral with metal covers of Bollywood and Punjabi songs, then made this self-released debut of original Hindi and English rap-metal with dhol, flute and bhangra rhythms. It has ten tracks including "Gaddaar", "Aaj", "Machi Bhasad" and "Jee Veerey", and it took them to Wacken and festivals across Europe. See the Bloodywood artist page.
Start with: "Machi Bhasad"
15. Bloodywood: Nu Delhi (2025)
Bloodywood's second album came out through Fearless Records. It's eight tracks, tighter and heavier, and it features Japan's BABYMETAL on "Bekhauf". "Halla Bol", "Dhadak" and the title track make it the most internationally visible Indian metal album yet.
Start with: "Bekhauf" (feat. BABYMETAL)
Honourable mentions
- Kryptos, Afterburner (2019) and Decimator (2024), both on AFM. More twin-guitar heavy metal, as strong as Coils.
- Gutslit, Carnal (2023). Eight tracks, with Julien Truchan on "Bind Torture Kill".
- Skyharbor, Blinding White Noise: Illusion & Chaos (2012). Ten tracks, the debut.
- Demonic Resurrection, The Return to Darkness (2010). Ten tracks.
What's not here
We only included albums you can play today on Apple Music India. Some important early Indian metal records aren't listed there, and we'll add them if they appear. We've also left out the 2026 Demonic Resurrection singles until a full album is released. Hard-rock acts such as Girish and the Chronicles sit closer to rock than metal and belong in a different list. For songs rather than albums, see our best Indian metal songs list.
