Skyharbor began as the studio project of guitarist Keshav Dhar and grew into one of the best-known Indian progressive metal bands abroad. Wikipedia describes it as an Indian/American band, with members from New Delhi, Mumbai and Cleveland, Ohio. The sound is atmospheric, modern prog metal: clean, soaring vocals over complex, layered guitars, with long songs that build rather than bludgeon. The catalogue is small: three albums and four standalone singles. All of it is worth hearing.
Release dates, tracklists and guest credits below come from Apple Music India, checked on 28 October 2026. Line-up and touring history come from Wikipedia's Skyharbor article, which cites Rolling Stone India, Metalbase and Prog among others. We don't quote stream counts.

How a home project became a band
According to Wikipedia, Skyharbor started as Dhar's own studio project. In October 2010 TesseracT vocalist Daniel Tompkins contacted him about working together. Around the same time, Maryland-based drummer Anup Sastry, who had been posting YouTube videos of himself playing Skyharbor songs, talked with Dhar about taking the music on stage. With bassist Nikhil Rufus Raj, the band played its first show as an instrumental three-piece at the 2011 NH7 Weekender.
That origin explains the sound of the first album. These were refined versions of Dhar's demos, written by one person at a desk, and then given to a band.
Blinding White Noise: Illusion & Chaos (2012)
The debut is a two-part record. Wikipedia describes it as a double-disc album, with Tompkins singing on the Illusion half and Sunneith Revankar of Bhayanak Maut on the Chaos half. On Apple Music India it's one ten-track listing, with the titles prefixed to show which half they belong to.
- Illusion: Catharsis (7:08) and Illusion: Celestial (7:02) are the long centrepieces. Wikipedia notes guest solos on both from Marty Friedman, formerly of Megadeth.
- Illusion: Maeva (6:43) closes the first half on its most atmospheric note.
- Chaos: Trayus (4:51), Chaos: Aphasia (4:04) and Chaos: Insurrection (4:44) are shorter and harder, matching Revankar's rougher delivery.
Soon after the release, Wikipedia says, the band announced Tompkins as its official lead singer. In May 2012 Skyharbor supported Lamb of God at the band's India show, after being picked by drummer Chris Adler, and guitarist Devesh Dayal joined the live line-up. The band later played Euroblast in Cologne, the UK Tech Metal Festival and a Russian tour with Monuments and TesseracT.
Start with: "Illusion: Catharsis".
Guiding Lights (2014)
The second album is the record where Skyharbor sounds like a band rather than a project. Wikipedia says the writing was much more collaborative, that bassist Krishna Jhaveri had replaced Nikhil Rufus Raj in late 2013, and that the album was crowdfunded through PledgeMusic in mid-2014 and produced with Australian producer Forrester Savell. The band played Download Festival and Graspop Metal Meeting that summer, testing the new material live.
The songs get longer and more spacious:
- Allure (6:46) opens the record with a guest appearance from Mark Holcomb, credited on Apple Music.
- Evolution (5:39) was the first single, released in June 2014 during the crowdfunding campaign.
- Idle Minds (7:46) and Halogen (7:02) are the album's heart: patient builds, big clean choruses.
- Patience (4:42) got a music video directed by animator Jess Cope.
- Guiding Lights (9:22), the title track, is the emotional peak.
- Kaikoma features Valentina Reptile, and the closer, The Constant (9:33), features the Australian guitarist Plini.
Guiding Lights came out worldwide on 10 November 2014. Wikipedia notes that its launch tour in India ended with a headline set at NH7 Weekender, three years after the band's live debut on the same stage.
Start with: "Guiding Lights", then "Evolution".
The line-up change (2015)
In 2015, per Wikipedia, drummer Anup Sastry left and was replaced by Aditya Ashok, and Tompkins stepped down as frontman because of touring and scheduling difficulties. Cleveland singer Eric Emery replaced him. That year the band made its North American debut on TesseracT's Polaris tour with The Contortionist and ERRA, and earlier it had co-headlined a 29-date European and UK tour with sleepmakeswaves and Tides From Nebula.
The three singles that followed were the first music with Emery: "Out of Time" (August 2015), "Blind Side" (June 2016) and "Chemical Hands" (September 2016). Wikipedia adds that the band supported Deftones in Europe in April 2017.
Sunshine Dust (2018)
The third album arrived on 7 September 2018 through Entertainment One. Apple Music India shows thirteen tracks, and it's the band's most varied record: short interludes, mid-length songs and a long title track.
- Signal (1:20) is a brief opening.
- Dim (4:58) and Out of Time (4:57) set the tone: tighter songs, with Emery's voice front and centre.
- Synthetic Hands (5:41) and Blind Side (6:37) carry over the singles era.
- Disengage / Evacuate (6:12) and The Reckoning (6:24) are the heaviest stretch.
- Sunshine Dust (6:19), the closing title track, pulls the album's threads together.
Note that the 2016 single "Chemical Hands" and the album track "Synthetic Hands" have different titles on Apple Music. We list both as they appear.
Start with: "Blind Side", then the title track.
Where Skyharbor stands now
Sunshine Dust is the most recent release on Apple Music India; nothing new has appeared since 2018. Wikipedia lists the band's active years as 2010–2020. We cover released work only, so this guide ends with Sunshine Dust.
Where to start
- One song: "Guiding Lights".
- Three songs: Illusion: Catharsis → Guiding Lights → Blind Side.
- One album: Guiding Lights, front to back.
- If you like vocals up front: Sunshine Dust.
Why Skyharbor matters
Skyharbor showed that an Indian guitarist with home-recorded demos could build an international prog metal career: international singers, European festivals, a North American tour and a label deal abroad. It's a route other Indian heavy bands have followed since. For the wider scene, see Indian metal bands and Indian progressive rock bands. For Sunneith Revankar's main band, see Bhayanak Maut.
