Thermal and a Quarter are one of the longest-running bands in Indian independent rock. The Bengaluru group, usually shortened to TAAQ and led by guitarist and singer Bruce Lee Mani, has been making records since before streaming existed: funky, clever, very Bangalore rock songs with jazz and blues inside them. This guide goes through every Thermal and a Quarter album on Apple Music India, in release order, from the 2000 debut to A World Gone Mad, plus the singles since.
How we checked. Dates and track counts come from Apple Music India (iTunes catalogue, country IN), checked on 28 October 2026. Apple sometimes shows a digital release date that is later than a CD release; where the copyright year differs, we note it. Released music only.

The albums, in order
Thermal and a Quarter (15 May 2000, 9 tracks). The self-titled debut. Nine songs, from "Sunset Man" and "One of Those Days" to "King Simple", "Potatoe Junkie", "A Little Latino" and "Humpty Dumpty", plus a bonus track, "Sheep". Light on its feet, playful, and already full of guitar ideas. Start with: "Sunset Man".
Jupiter Café (1 January 2002, 11 tracks). The band's second album and a Bengaluru classic. "Brigade Street" names one of the city's best-known roads, and "Wishing for Magic", "Respectable", "Drunk" and the title track show a band growing in confidence. Start with: "Brigade Street".
Plan B (Apple date 2 July 2006, 10 tracks). Apple's copyright line reads 2004. Songs like "Bend the World", "Paper Puli", "I Live Here", "Cynical World" and "Motorbyckle" mix social comment with funk-rock grooves. "Paper Puli" ("paper tiger") is TAAQ at their wittiest. Start with: "Bend the World".
This Is It (15 April 2008, 10 tracks). A tight, groove-heavy record: "This Is It", "How Can I Get Your Groove", "Holy Jose", "Take Me to Your Dealer", "Fly" and "Words and Pictures". Start with: "How Can I Get Your Groove".
3 Wheels 9 Lives (28 September 2012, 28 tracks). A double-length album and the band's biggest statement. Twenty-eight songs, from "Surrender" and "Meter Mele One-and-a-Half" (a joke every Bengaluru auto-rickshaw rider will get) to "Billboard Bride", "Bangalore Flower", "Dangerous Mind", "Origami" and "Kickbackistan". It is a lot, but it is the fullest picture of what TAAQ can do. Start with: "Meter Mele One-and-a-Half".
The Scene (23 February 2015, 10 tracks). A sharp, funny record about the music industry itself: "I'm Endorsed, Are You", "Godrocker", "Flok Rock", "Going to Abroad", "The Scene" and the bonus "The Sponsors Backed Out". Anyone who has played Indian gigs will smile. Start with: "I'm Endorsed, Are You".
No Wall Too High (24 October 2015, 11 tracks). Released in the same year as The Scene, but heavier and more serious. "Ghost of Godiva", "Dresden Drumbeat", "All the Watchtowers", "Edifice of Lies", "Silicon Outhouse", "The Moor Song" and "Bangalore Blues". Start with: "Bangalore Blues".
A World Gone Mad (20 March 2020, 10 tracks). Their most recent album on Apple Music India. It gathers earlier singles "A World Gone Mad" (2017), "Leaders of Men" (2019) and "Stone Circle" (2019, featuring Swikrity Singh) with songs such as "Where Do We Gotta Go Now", "Distance", "Lopsided" and "Saved by a Laugh". Start with: "Stone Circle".
The singles since 2020
TAAQ have kept releasing singles on Apple Music India: "Tilt" (9 October 2020), "Inside Out" (26 November 2021), "What World" (21 October 2022), "Raise the Bar" (1 July 2024), "More Equal" (31 October 2025), "Lies" (12 August 2026) and a live version of "Dangerous Mind" (16 September 2026).
Why TAAQ matter
They are a link between India's 1990s rock scene and today's indie bands. They write in English but sing about very local things: city traffic, autos, offices, sponsors and the scene itself. And they are players first, so every record has guitar and groove worth studying.
