Rabbi Shergill (born Gurpreet Singh Shergill, 16 April 1972) is a Delhi-rooted Indian musician whose debut album Rabbi and the 2004 single Bullah Ki Jaana made him a mainstream face of contemporary Sufi- and Punjabi-inflected songwriting. Press has described the sound as rock, Punjabi, bani-melody, and semi-Sufi folk with Western arrangement—urban balladry rather than classical qawwali revivalism.
He was born to a Sikh preacher father and a college-principal mother who also wrote Punjabi poetry. Schooling at Guru Harkrishan Public School, India Gate, and graduation from Khalsa College preceded a brief Fore School of Management stint he left after a year. Early band work included a group named Kaffir before the solo Rabbi era.
Bullah Ki Jaana’s chart life in the mid-2000s put Punjabi philosophical lyric into national Hindi/English media rotation and remains the reference entry point for new listeners. Later albums and film work extended the brand without erasing that debut footprint.
Apple Music’s locked artist id supplies enrichable catalog rows for this Discography hub. The page records verified biography and listen links only—no fabricated ratings. Wave 1 ships without a hero photograph.
Editors should credit rabbi-shergill for profiles and reviews centered on his catalog. Compilation appearances shared with many artists stay mention-only under single-select policy.
Mid-2000s Indian popular music briefly made space for philosophical Punjabi songwriting in mainstream rotation; Rabbi Shergill’s Bullah Ki Jaana is the durable artifact of that moment, while the debut album Rabbi established the solo brand after the earlier Kaffir band period. Delhi schooling and Khalsa College education are part of the public biography. Later catalog work continues under the same Apple artist id locked here. Discography indexes him as folk-rock / Sufi-leaning indie-adjacent—not as classical Sufi repertoire. Sources remain Wikipedia plus Apple.
For Wave 1 operator checks, success means the facet exists with Apple sameAs 163629117, enrich attempted, unique intro word count at or above 300, and presence in artists.xml once the API’s isIndexableFacet rule passes. Bullah Ki Jaana remains the cultural shorthand, but the page is a full-catalog hub rather than a one-song stub.
